What are the meanings behind the Amethyst stone?

The spiritual meaning of Amethyst is tranquillity, balance and calm. The most popular of all the quartz crystals, Amethyst is considered the most protective and powerful.

In today’s world, Amethyst is thought to provide the wearer with the qualities of peace, courage, stability, focus, royalty, romance, and affection.  This makes amethyst the perfect gift to express love or to protect yourself and others from negative thoughts.

The literal meaning of Amethyst is “not intoxicated” translated from the Greek word Améthystos.  It was believed that Ancient Greek Gods drank from goblets studded with amethyst gems to prevent drunkenness and excess.
